Summer School on Global Climate Change and Vulnerability of Natural Resources

The Summer School on “Global Climate Change and Vulnerability of Natural Resources” is jointly organized by Xiamen University (XMU) and San Diego State University (SDSU). The Summer School is designed especially for university undergraduate students.
College of the Oceanography and Environmental Science (Former COE, which has been reformed to the College of Environment and Ecology, and College of Ocean and Earth Sciences), Xiamen University, signed an agreement with College of Sciences, San Diego State University in Oct. 2011, on cooperation of the student summer research school program. This summer school will be the second experience under the MoU. About thirty-three undergraduate students, 11 from SDSU and 22 from XMU, will be recruited for this year. We will provide participants with quality learning, key concepts and current update in various aspects of environmental science. We are looking forward to your joining this July.

•Quantitative assessment and prediction of climate change
•Marine pollution and climate change 
•Environmental proxies for paleoclimate reconstruction andpaleoclimate records Biological response and feedback in a warming climate: vulnerability of the Arctic ecosystem  
•Climate change impact on infectious diseases
•New drugs for emerging diseases under the changing climate
•Field trip and activities

Field studies:
A fieldtrip to XiaTanWei Mangrove Wetland Park of Xiamen, National Geologic Park of Strand and Volcano of Zhangzhou, Wuyuanwan Bay Wetland Park and several field courses will be organized.

Cultural studies: 
Several cultural events / tour will be organized during the summer school.

Target Group:
Undergraduates in the areas of Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Life Sciences,Pharmaceutical Sciences, Oceanic and Atmospheric Science are welcome to attend the summer school.
To ensure effective interactions, the number of participants will be limited to 22. 
Participants are welcome to attend the student forum, presenting oral presentations.

Fees:
No registration fee is charged for qualified applicants. Programs and teaching materials will be provided for free.
Welcome party, academic salons, field trips and farewell party will be arranged by the organizer. 
The Summer School is a two credit units course.
